Four In Truck Injured

Four youths were injured in a spectacular accident on the Main North road about half a mile north of the Canterbury Dairy Farmers, Ltd., factory near Kaiapoi at 12.10 a.m. yesterday. A light truck with a canvas canopy, driven south by Peter

Hall, aged 19, of 22 North parade, came into collision with a ear being driven north by Jack Becks, of 41 Cass street, Kaiapoi. The truck crossed the road, struck a power pole, and caught fire. The main part of the chassis came to rest in a deep ditch beside a hedge.

The occupants of the truck were flung out. They were attended by Dr. A. W. Lewis, of Kaiapoi. before being taken to the Christchurch Hospital by a St. John ambulance. Graeme Judkins, of 18 Darby street, suffered head and chest injuries, and was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. Mr Hall suffered arm and leg injuries, Kevin Jones, of 7 Cherryburton place, arm and leg injuries, and John Merrylees, of 217 Springfield road, arm injuries. They were treated at the Christchurch Hospital. No-one in the car was injured. A unit of the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade extinguished the fire in the truck, pole, and hedge.

Car Over Bank.—Two persons were injured and a car was extensively damaged when it left the Evans Pass road and rolled about 100 ft down a bank about 2.40 a.m. bn Saturday. The driver and his passengers were thrown from the vehicle. The driver. Bernard Gordon Masson, of 242 Main road, Moncks Bay, suffered back injuries, and the passenger, William Peter Paynter, of 108 Wakefield avenue, Sumner, head injuries. Both were admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Three Injured.—Three persons were injured when a car ran into a parked car in Grahams road about 3 p.m. on Saturday. Suzanne Mason, of 170 Grahams road, suffered head injuries and shock. She was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. Nance Manera. of 170 Grahams road, suffered shock, Donald

Scott, of 41 Bletsoe avenue, minor head injuries and shock. Both were treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Child Injured.— When she was struck by a car outside her home about 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, Helen Joy Grafton, aged three, of 46 Cranbrook avenue, suffered serious head injuries and shock. She was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital.

Struck Pole.— John Gordon Brooker, of 146 Grahams road, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital suffering from head injuries after his motor-cycle struck a pole at the comer of Gloucester and Barbadoes streets about 3 a.m. on Saturday. Passenger Injured.—Janice Hickford, of 38 Shirley road, suffered head, chest, and arm injuries when two cars collided in Prestons road about 5.15 p.m. on Saturday. She was admitted to the Princess i Margaret Hospital. Cyclist Injured.— When his cycle and a car collided in Moorhouse avenue near Fitzgerald avenue about 9.10 p.m. on Saturday William Dane, of 506 Hereford street, suffered head and arm injuries. He was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Cars Hit Poles.—Head, chest, arm. and leg injuries were suffered by Kaye Neal, of 301 Westminster street, when the car he was driving struck a pole at the comer of Warrington and Barbadoes streets about 1.30 a.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. The car was badly damaged. Mrs Heni Macleod. of River road. Kainga. suffered chest and leg injuries when a car hit a pole on the Main North road about 8.10 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs Macleod was treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Arm Injuries.—When he fell from a motor-scooter in shingle at Kairaki beach yesterday William Holstein, of 25 Barbour street, suffered arm injuries. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital.
