Seven Unions Competing
(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. November 23.
More than 100 visitors are expected at Westport for the South Island inter-port sports competitions starting on January is.
Cricket teams from Bluff, Dunedin. Nelson and Timaru will play matches on the Techini?al College ground and on (Victoria square. Golfers will come from Bluff, Port Chalmers, Timaru and Nelson and all seven unions. Bluff, Dunedin. Oamaru, Timaru. Nelson, Port Chalmers, and Westport, will have bowling teams playing in fours and pairs competitions on the Westport and Westport Returned Soldiers Club’s greens. Many of the watarside workers competing in this annual contest will be accompanied by their wives and special arrangements have been made for their entertainment, including socials and other outings. The Westport union is the smallest to undertake such a programme. Mr J. Callaghan is chairman of the local committee and Messrs E. Oldham and R. Smith are the organisers.
