ICEBREAKER LEAVES

The icebreaker Glacier left Lyttelton for McMurdo Sound yesterday afternoon. She is the first icebreaker to go south this season.

Tomorrow, the U.S.G.C. Eastwind is due from Wellington and will sail the same day to join the Glacier. A third icebreaker, the U.S.S. Staten Island, which is due at Wellington today, will sail to Antarctica from Wellington. Only two passengers travelled south aboard the Glacier yesterday. They are carpenters from the Antarctic Division of the D.S.I.R. bound for Scott Base.
