NOTIONAL RAILWAY
£lBO,OOO In Subsidy (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. Government subsidy on the Nelson notional railway was expected to reach £lBO,OOO for th 9 1963-64 financial year, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said in Parliament today. Speaking in the Internal Affairs estimate debate, Mr Seath said the original estimate was £176,000. Earnings from the railway were expected to increase 2.5 per cent for the year, he said. Mr M. A. Connelly (Opp., Riccarton) asked whether there would be a review of the situation as tunnelling costs had been reduced and this would affect the cost of building a railway.
