OPENING OF LAKES
Rights Of Board And Council The North Canterbury Catchment Board will ask the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council to clarify the position as to the board’s rights to open Lake Ellesmere at its discretion. The question arose through an application (since withdrawn) for a mineral licence on the Kaitorete spit The Wairewa County Council’s position as to the opening of Lake Forsyth is also affected. The county council has decided to open Lake Forsyth to the sea at a level 2ft lower than previously, for a trial period of three years.
