HORSE-AND-GIG ACCIDENT
A young man was injured arid two young women suffered shock when the pony pulling the gig they were in bolted in the centre of Christchurch yesterday afternoon. The three were taking part in a publicity stunt to promote the film “Tom Jones.” They were dressed in eighteenth century clothes and were to have driven round the Gloucester, Colombo, and Armagh streets block. The eight-year-old pony, owned and driven by Neil Anderson, aged 19, apparently startled by traffic, bolted 50 yards down Gloucester street towards the Colombo street intersection. Anderson was tossed from the gig, but held on to the rains. He was dragged off his feet twice and hurt his elbow and groin. His elbow was bleeding. The gig struck a pole on the north-west corner of Gloucester and Colombo streets. The women passengers, Sandra Jorgenson, aged 17, and Patricia Dodwell, aged 22, did not fall from the gig, though the pony swerved through traffic.
