Underground Test

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Nov. 6. The Atomic Energy Commission announced a lowyield, underground nuclear detonation today at its Nevada test site. Part of a programme to develop peaceful uses for nuclear explosives, the blast was designed to test the effects of a nuclear explosion on carbonate rock, the A.E.C. said. The device was exploded more than 1300 ft below the surface and had a predicted yield of about 10 kilotons.
