FACTORY’S MOVE

F.O.L. Asked To Negotiate

Unions representing more than two-thirds of the employees of Motor Assemblies’ vehicle factory, at special meetings yesterday, decided to hand negotiations with the company to the Canterbury Trades Council of the Federation of Labour, said a representative of the plant. He attended a lunch-hour meeting of factory members of the Canterbury Coachworkers’ Union.

Until now, he said, the individual unions involved had been, handling negotiations with the company on such subjects as termination pay in view of the factory’s pending shift to Nelson. The representative said that the decision at the coachworkers’ union meeting to hand the issue to the F.0.L., was carried with one dissentient vote.

Factory members of the Canterbury Storemen’s and Packers’ Union, he said, were unanimous in their decision to hand the issue over to the FO.L.
