Mr lan Smith, the Rhodesian Prime Minister, said tonight Britain was far more guilty than Rhodesia of treason in “sending these poor members of the Royal Family” to countries “where they have to pull down the Union Jack.”

Subsequently, in those countries, the people no longer sang “God Save the Queen,” Mr Smith told a public meeting.
