Count de Loot May Win At Auckland

“The Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND, October 3D. The testing for speed of the two-year-olds hi the Welcome Stakes should be one of the major attractions at the Auckland Racing Club's mid-spring meeting tomorrow. Count de Loot, which will be trying for a hai-trick, will be an odds-on-favourite to succeed m the first division. Count de Loot's most notable opponents seem likely to be Under-Counter, Merry Men. Maphibian and Buona Sera. In the second division the dominant candidates seem to be Nassau Trust and Wandering Minstrel. The T.A.B. double will be on the Alison Cup and the Cheltenham Handicap. The Alison Cup looks full of possibilities. Aro is one of the horses in favour and others are Persian Star. Danrian's Pride. Arakhan and High Mark. Bridoon. Water Waggon, Michael, Markable, Mali Peter and Pipe Dream are among the very fast horses in the Cheltenham Handicap. The warm, sunny weather of the last few days has dried the course. The track Is well grassed and should provide fast going. Selections: Noon—Melrose Maiden: First Division—Amphitrite, Mighty Fair. Second Division—Sunset Fair.
