Publicity Plan To Aid Export Drive

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 30. A special publicity programme within New Zealand in support of the export drive, has been recommended by the Trade Promotion Council, which met in Wellington today.

The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) said the programme would include introduction of an export award to organisation achieving an outstanding success in the export field. Mr Marshall—who is also chairman of the council—said although details were yet to be worked out, it was expected the award would be an annual one. But there was a provision that the award would only be made to organisations meeting criteria yet to be established. Mr Marshall told the council he regarded the encouragement of export consciousness as a “legitimate function of the Government.” He said: “One of the present tasks is the survey of the manufacturing field, the attempt to identify products where there seems to be good prospects of export.” Draw Attention The Minister said the programme called for a strong

attempt to draw the attention of manufacturers to the export possibilities for their particular products. Assistance would also be given through departmental facilities to overcome difficulties which might be restricting production for exports or export marketing. Mr Marshall told the council there would be increased liaison, between the Department of Industries and Commerce and the primary producer boards. The Minister said a close liaison was also to be maintained with chambers of commerce and manufacturers’ associations. It was also planned to encourage promotion of a regular t c ries of export seminars and trade clinics at regional levels. Mr Marshall said the main publicity scheme would include poster displays, advertisements, newspaper, radio, television and magazine material, and pamphlet distribution.
