CONTROL OF R. And G.
Northern Move Defended (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 30. Controlling Ross and Glendining, Ltd., from Dunedin was like “trying to drive a motor car from the back seat.” This is what the company’s chairman (Mr B. E. Woodhams, of Hamilton) told shareholders at the annual meeting in Dunedin yesterday when answering a question on the transfer of the company’s head office to Auckland.
“Our interest in Dunedin remains,” Mr Woodham said, “and we are still building our business in Dunedin. “But you must remember this is not a Dunedin company—it is a New Zealand company, and we are satisfied that we have done the right thing.” Of the company’s total turnover, Mr Woodhams said that 70 per cent was in the North Island and 40 per cent was in the Auckland province. “It was desirable that we should be there for we have to be where the big opportunities are.”
