STRONTIUM RESIDUE
Big Increase In U.K. (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, October 28. The average concentration of Strontium-90 in the bones of young children in some parts of Britain more than doubled between the second half of 1962 and the same period in 1963. A Medical Research Council report said that if the results of its survey for JulyDecember, 1963, were compared with those for the first half of 1963, the increase was slightly less. Since the collection of samples had been mainly in areas of high rainfall, where radioactive fallout was likely to be relatively high, the figures were not countrywide averages, which would be expected to be lower. Between July and December strontium-90 concentration in bone increased in all age groups. Smaller increases were found in children aged five and over compared with the second half of 1962 and the first half of 1963.
