INCREASED SALARIES

Objection By Member

The authority should be wary about granting salary increases which were above the 6 per cent general wage order, said Mr L. G. Amos at a meeting of the Christ-church-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority. He was commenting on the recommendation of the finance committee for the following annual increases: general manager, £150; tunnel superintendent, maintenance superintendent and accountant, £lOO each; shorthand typist, £5O. The chairman (Mr R. A. Witbrock) told Mr Amos that the increases were slightly above 6 per cent; but they were part of a review of salaries, he said, and the committee had tried to preserve differentials. “Well I will take the line of least resistance and shut up,” said Mr Amos, after other members had said they were satisfied with the increases.
