VISITS BY DOCTORS
Income Tax Problem
tN.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Oct. 29.
Future visits to New Zealand and other countries by groups of United States doctors could be abandoned because of their income tax regulations, Dr. Charles Smart, of Los Angeles, said in Auckland today. “Doctors can legitimately claim the expenses of such trips as expenses in the United States,” he said. “This reduces their income tax. But I believe the practice may be discontinued if tax laws are changed.”
Dr. Smart is leading a party of 58 American doctors and their wives who are visiting Australia and New Zealand. “Cancellation of similar trips would not be a good thing,” said Dr. Smart. “Only so much can be learnt of medicine by reading. Talking and observing on overseas visits can do much more.”
