Fire Damages Potatoes

Fifty tons of potatoes was damaged at the Paparua Prison farm when the straw under which the potatoes were stacked caught fire on Thursday morning. Fire engines from the Sockbum and Sydenham stations answered the alarm, given at 11.34 a.m., and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Two chains of gorse hedge on the property of British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd., Halswell Junction road, was destroyed by fire about 4 p.m. Sockburn firemen put out the blaze.
