TOLD TO ALIGHT
Passenger On Tractor
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, Oct. 23.
A Rotorua farmer, driving his tractor along a road with a man on the towbar, was stopped by a traffic officer and told he would be fined if the passenger did not alight.
When Mr R. Shaw reported this to the Waikato Federated Farmers’ provincial executive, the vice-president (Mr J. F. Luxton) said that with countless farmers owning adjoining farms, it was ridiculous that one man should have to walk half a mile to keep within the law. Safety devices on a tractor cost about £5O, said Mr R. Woolerton. Mr J. D. Perriam said the executive did not want a relaxation of the law under which children under 12 were forbidden to ride on a tractor.
The executive will investigate the traffic law of adult passengers travelling on the drawbar or tray of a tractor.
