Young Tennis Players
Young Canterbury tennis players will emulate Southlanders tomorrow morning when they leave early by chartered aircraft to take part in a tournament in Invercargill. Groups of Southlanders have travelled to several Canterbury tournaments in this way but this is the first time the traffic has been the other way. Altogether 37 players, five from country districts and the rest from Christchurch, will make the trip. They will be accompanied bj- three officials, including the chairman of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s junior management committee (Mr R. B. Brown). The 37 players who have made 109 entries in the various sections are:— Under 17 boys: K. Ussher, D. Meredith. L. Sherwin, G. McNeill. Under 17 girls: J. Bishop, J. Habgood. P. McLean. S. McGillivray, W. Cocks. L. Neill. Under 15 boys: D. Blackwell. K. Radcliffe. T. Guthrie, M. Louisson, J. McAuliffe, P. Woolley. Under 15 girls: C. Davey, S. MacDougall, E. Clarke. Under 14 boys: G. Archer. W. Pitawa. L. Haines, D. Finlay. Under 14 girls: R. Dillon, J. Banfield, L. Davie. Under 13 boys: L. Chapman. W. Young. N. Pattinson, B. Morrison. R. McGunpey. Under 13 girls: K. Wilson. Under 12 boys: D. Michell, K. Lewis. D. Schroeder. Under 12 girls: C. McConnell. The party will return early on Tuesday morning.
