£500 From England
The Football Association has granted the New Zealand Association £5OO towards expenses of the New Zealand team on its world tour earlier this year. Invited to comment on the reported "quiet” reception the New Zealand team had had during it* English tour. New Zealand’s representative on the Football Association, Mr K. de Maus, said the team was not a draw in England where brilliant overseas teams made regular visits. The F.A. did all that could have been expected of it for the New Zealand tourists.— (P.A.) Forced Out Mechanical failures forced Australia’s Jack Brabham and New Zealand’s Bruce McLaren out of yesterday’s Monterey Grand Prix Auto race. McLaren was in third place in the first heat with just three laps to go when a defective water pump forced his McLaren Special into the pits. Another breakdown forced him out of the race after 16 laps. The race was won by Roger Pensfce of the United States.—(Monterey (California), October 19.)
