Follows Precedent
The interest taken in Agricultural and Pastoral Association activities by this year’s show president, Mr J. A. G. Fulton, follows a precedent set by his father, a former president of the Canterbury association.
Mr Fulton also follows his father in having an interest in racing, and it is only this year that he gave up the presidency of the North Canterbury Racing Club, an office he held for
three years. He was first appointed a steward in the late 1940’s and for the last few years he has been a member of the judicial committee.
Apart from his interest in the Northern A. and P. Association, Mr Fulton is also a member of the Canterbury association.
As well as these interests he has done his share for a wide range of other activities. He is at present chairman of the South Island Freezing Companies’ Association and a director of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company.
A member of the Ashley Rabbit Board since its inception Mr Fulton was chairman for a period. He has taken a keen interest in sheep dog trials
and has been chairman of the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Association Mr Fulton is believed to have gained the distinction of being the first New Zealander to judge dog trials in Victoria when he did so in March 1960. For a period he served on the Rangiora High School Board as an appointee of the Governor-General. Mr Fulton received his secondary education at Christ’s College where he was both a member of the First XV and captain of the First XI in 1943. After leaving school he retained his interest in both sports and represented North Can- , terbury at cricket j Mr Fulton farms a property at Loburn.
