PLANS FOR YANGTZE
Melbourne Cup Run Likely (N.Z. Press Astn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Oct. 19. The part-owners of the Caulfield Cup winner, Yangtze, were so pleased with the three-year-old’s 41b penalty for the Melbourne Cup that they announced in Adelaide yesterday that the colt would be a final acceptor for the big race and was almost certain to run. This changed the earlier suggestion by trainer R. Dini, that Yangtze would be sent for a spell after running in the Victoria Derby at Flemington next Saturday week. Yangtze’s 41b penalty lifts his Melbourne Cup weight to 7-7, which is only 11b over weight for age. Yangtze is raced in partownership by Drs. G. W. E. Aitken, D, E. Craven, I. K. Fuller and'Mr R. F. S. Driver.
Yesterday, in Adelaide, two of the part-owners, Dr. Craven and Mr Driver, made the following joint statement: "We are very satisfied with the penalty given Yangtze, and the colt will now be a final acceptor for the Melbourne Cup, and will run in that race provided he comes through his Derby engagement satisfactorily.”
