DROWNING DANGER

Instruction Urged (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 11. Every person in the community should have a working knowledge of life-saving and resuscitation procedures, the Mayor of Wellington (Mr F. J. Kitts) said yesterday when opening the annual conference of the Royal Life Saving Society of New Zealand. “We are a nation that spends a great deal of our time in the water,” he said. “That means that more and more people are going to drown or are in danger of doing so.” The society later decided to write to the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) asking him to give, in the proposed three-year teachers’ training course, adequate attention to the instruction of student teachers in swimming, lifesaving and water safety measures.
