BEATEN BY TWO GOALS
N.Z. Team At Adelaide (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, Oct 11. New Zealand’s Canterbury youth soccer team yesterday failed to reach the finals in the Australian youth soccer carnival. The visitors were beaten by Tasmania by three goals to one. The score did not reflect the true standard of the teams, soccer writers said. Canterbury was clearly on top throughout the first half, but missed many chances to score. Each side scored once in the first half. Tasmania became prominent in the second half. Disaster struck Canterbury when Sayers, attempting to clear a long ball, miskicked and put the ball into bis own goal. Tasmania scored again five minutes before full-time. On Friday night Victoria beat the New Zealand visitors, 2-0. The New Zealand team finished third in its group and was eliminated from the carnival.
