DESERT CORPS

Memorial In Perth (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, October 11. The town of Albany, 254 miles south-east of Perth, was packed with visitors today for the unveiling ceremony of the Desert Mounted Corps memorial, erected in a commanding position at the summit of Mount Clarence. The memorial will be unveiled by the Prime Minister (Sir Robert Menzies). Among other visitors will be the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr J. L. Hazlett) and Major-General A. S. Wilder, representing the New Zealand R.S.A. Albany was chosen as the site, in spite of claims that the memorial should be in Canberra, because it was the departure point on November 1, 1914, for the first Aus-tralian-New Zealand contingent to World War I.
