SYDNEY, Oct 11. Prince William of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, made a surprise arrival in Sydney yesterday. Prince William, aged 22. wearing dark glasses and casual clothes, was whisked away from the Kingsford Smith Airport by car for an unknown destination. The Prince travelled from Bangkok on Australia’s Qantas airline by tourist-class flight under the name “Gloucester.” Few of his fellow passengers knew who he was. It is believed to be his first
visit to Australia since 1947. when he was five, and his father, the Duke of Glouceste -, was Governor-General of Australia. A Qantas spokesman said last night: “We were told he was making this flight last week but the Prince does not want any publicity. “As far as I know he travelled alone and was treated as an ordinary touristclass passenger.” A Government House spokesman said in Canberra that the Prince would be in Australia for about a month. His visit was private.
