STAYING AT HOKITIKA
No Need To Share Course (From Our Own Reporter) HOKITIKA, October 9. There was no reason why the Westland Racing Club should rhee on any course other than its own at Hokitika, Mr J. B. Hood, the president, told the club’s annual general meeting on Thursday evening. “We have quite a good track and excellent appointments in good order for such a club and we control three of the four days* racing held in the Westland county,” said Mr Hood.
He said many official and unofficial statements had been published about centralisation. “A former Coaster, a Mr Coburn, has had published an article in which he stated his opinion that both the Kumara and Westland Racing Clubs should hold their meetings at Omoto and that the North Canterbury Racing Club should race at Riccarton instead of Rangiora. “It has been noted that his view was not popularly received at the annual meeting at Rangiora and I feel it is opportune to state that members of this executive can see no reason whatever why this club should race anywhere but at Hokitika,” said Mr Hood.
