‘Allegations Unfounded’

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Oct. 9.

Allegations into irregularities at Invercargill Borstal were unfounded, the State Services Commission said in a statement tonight. A former employee of the Borstal, Mr R. Bennett, alleged in a newspaper article last October that there were irregularities in staff attendances and the administration of the Borstal and that some

staff members had been victimised.

Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., who conducted an inquiry, said in his report: “I find none of the alleged irregularities in the administration and management of the Borstal have any foundation in fact whatsoever.

“I found no other relevant matters touching the matters under inquiry that call for comment.”
