APPLICATIONS are Invited for the following positions in Macquarie University which will open on Its site at North Ryde, Sydney, for graduate and undergraduate courses not later than March. 1967. The policy of the Council Is to develop the University for 16.000 undergraduates within a period of ten years. Applicants should state with their curriculum vitae the names of three referees, and as an early start is important, the date on which they would be able to take up duty. Salary for the four positions listed will be £4595 (Australian) per annum plus cost of living adjustments at present £4l (Australian), subject to deductions under the State Superannuation Fund, but may be subject to review in the near future. A Staff Members' Housing Scheme will be established and in cases approved by the University and Its bankers, married men may be assisted by loans to purchase a house. The Act of Parliament setting up the University has been proclaimed but no by laws have yet been formulated. The duties and responsibilities of the following positions are therefore stated only In general terms and will be subject to definition and clarification by the Council at a later date and will In any event, be subject to the direction of the Vice-Chancellor. REGISTRAR Applicants should, for preference. be experienced in the academic administration of an established University. The Registrar will be principally concerned with the provision of services relating to (he academic administration of the University. BURSAR Applicants should, for preference. be experienced In the financial and accounting administration appropriate to a university. The Bursar will bo principally concerned with the accounting, budgeting and allied aspects of the University's administration. LIBRARIAN Applicants should, for preference, have had experience In a senior capacity in an elxsting University library and will be required to organise and staff the library and to advise on the planning of the building to be erected to house the library. ARCHITECT-PLAN N ER Applicants should be qualified architects and, for preference, should have some planning qualification or experience and have had experience or interest in landscape architecture. With the assistance of consultants the ArchitectPlanner will be required to plan the development of a site of approximately 330 acres and to co-ordinate the work of various firms of executive architects and a complex and continuing building operation extending over a period of years so as to ensure that satisfactory standards of physical environment are maintained. LECTURER IN BIOMETRY A candidate should have an appropriate background in one or more of the following fields: mathematics, biomathematics, statistics, or a biological discipline with supplementary experience in blomathematlcal aspects. 2. READER OR SENIOR LECTURER IN AGRONOMY The Reader or Senior Lecturer will be expected te teach and research in the general field of crop or pasture growth, and applications from candidates with special Interests In crop ecology, crop physiology or plant competition will be particularly welcome. 3. SENIOR LECTURER OR LECTURER IN ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY Preference may be given te an applicant who. in addition to a basic physiological background, has had experience in biochemistry, organic chemistry or biophysics, 4. READER IN PROTEIN BIOCHEMISTRY The Reader will be expected to initiate a research programme and to supervise post-graduate students. 5. LECTURER IN PLANT BIOCHEMISTRY Preference will be given te candidates with Interests in aspects of protein biochemistry or enzymology. The successful applicant will ho expected to collaborate In the study of proteins and carbohydrates of the developing wheat grain. 6. LECTURER IN SOIL SCIENCE The person appointed will be expected to conduct research Into the influence of organic materials on the fertility of South Australian wheat soils with particular reference to their nitrogen status. He will also bo required to undertake limited teaching duties. 7. LECTURER IN ENTOMOLOGY Applications are sought especially from entomologists with training in physiology. In particular those aspects of physiology relating to ecology. SALARY SCALES: Reader £A3300-100—£3600; Senior Lecturer, £A2700-110—£3250; Lecturer, £AIBOO-100—£2600; with superannuation on the F.S.S.U. basis. In each case the initial salary of the successful candidate may be fixed within the appropriate scale in accordance with his qualifications and previous experience. Academic salaries are at present under review by an Authority appointed by ths Commonwealth Government.
