AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS are invited for the following Cadetships: VACANCY NO. 3501: APICULTURAL CADETSHIPS Vacancies for two Apicultural Cadets exist in the Department of Agriculture. Applications are invited from boys 16 to 19 years of age who have passed University Entrance and preferably Higher School Certificate, or who expect to pass University Entrance this year. Undergraduates who have completed one or more years of this course at University will be given favourable consideration. The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to study full time at University for a B. Ag. Sc. degree. (After completion of the degree and a further period of training in the field they will be appointed as Advisory Officers.) Applicants should be of good physique, appearance, and personality, and have some knowledge of beekeeping or biology. VACANCY NO. 3502: DAIRY SCIENCE CADETSHIPS Study awards are available In the Department of Agriculture for boys who are interested in a career in dairy science. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to study full time at Massey Agricultural College for the B. Food Tech, degree. This will be followed by a period of up to four years’ training in selected dairy factories prior to taking up appointment (in the Dairy Division of the Department) either in the field or in a laboratory, according to aptitude. Candidates must have University Entrance and preferably Higher School Certifiate or expect to pass University Entrance this year. Applications are particularly invited from those who have successfully completed a year of the course. Good physique, appearance, and personality are desirable. VACANCY NO. 3503: HORTICULTURE CADETSHIPS Boys 16 to 19 years of age who are Interested in horticulture are invited to apply for cadetships offered by the Department of Agriculture. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to study full time at University for the B Ag. Sc. (Horticulture) degree, together with practical training in the field. Candidates are appointed as Advisory Officers in the Horticulture Division of the Department. Candidates must have University Entrance and preferably Higher School Certificate, or'expect to pass University Entrance this year. Undergraduates who have competed one or more years of this course at University will be favourably considered. Preference will be given to those who have taken mathematics and science at school. Good physique, appearance, and personality are desirable, as well as practical knowledge of, or firm interest in, horticulture. VACANCY NO. 3504: VITICULTURAL CADETSHIP A Viticultural cadetship in the Department of Agriculture is available for a boy 16 to 19 years of age who has University Entrance and preferably Higher School Certificate or expects to pass University Entrance this year. Applications from young men who have completed Chemistry, Zoology and Botany to stage 1 level at University will be given first consideration. The successful candidate will be given the opportuntiy of studying full time for a B.Sc. degree. Further training in Australal may be arranged on completion of the degree and some practical training. Applicants should have passed School Certificate or Sitting this year, as technical correspondence training courses have to be continued for the first three years of apprenticeship. As work tends to be of a heavy nature, applicants should be physically fit and have a keen interest in heavy earthmoving machinery.
