A landscaped courtyard is a feature of the design for a new tutorial block for staff training at Sunnyside Hospital. Designed by Ministry of Works architects in Christchurch, the block will be a model for other tutorial blocks in New Zealand.

The single-storey block Is self-contained and has an area of 4000 sq. ft. surrounding the courtyard. It will be built near the new reception unit and medical centre off Selwyn street. Exterior walls will be of concrete and precast concrete panels. The main lecture room will have tiered seating, and its roof will slope up from the rest of the building. There will be two other classrooms, a library, a lecturer's room, two tutors’ rooms, and a large tearoom.

Sketch plans have been approved by the Health Department, and workirtg drawings are being prepared.
