OLYMPIC LAMB

Second Gift To Village (Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA.) TOKYO. Oct. 9. New Zealand lamb has proved so popular with Olympic athletes that more has been presented to the Olympic village kitchens. The latest gift, one ton of prime spring lamb, was presented today by the manager of the New Zealand team (Mr W. A. Stevenson) on behalf of the team. The gift—the second free consignment of New Zealand lamb for the village—was made available to the team by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board representative in Japan, Mr J. A. Malcolm. This consignment was presented to the New Zealand team as a goodwill gesture from the board and to make sure that New Zealand and Australian athletes in the village are well supplied with first-grade meat. Earlier, the board presented a ton and a half of New Zealand lamb direct to the village caterers. On the Tokyo retail market two and a half tons of lamb would be worth 2,500.000 yen (£2430).
