SCOUTS’ CANOE DAY
Nine Races Held At Brooklands Sixty-five Venture Rover Scouts representing 12 Canterbury groups competed in nine canoe races on the Brooklands lagoon on Saturday. A variety of races and a slalom were held on a specially arranged quarter,mile course. Points were awarded for the first three placings. The winning group was Burwood with 15 points. Heathcote was second with seven points, and Hororata and Shjrjey were third with six points each. It is hoped that a canoq day will become an annual event for Venture Rover Scouts. The Christchurch Canoe Club intends to present a trophy’ for competition. Race’ winners were: singles relay, Burwood; doubles relay, Shirley; singles Spfint, Burwood; doubles sprint, Hororata: singles distance, Burwood; doubles distance, Hororata; singles astern, Mania-o-rdho; doubles astern, Waimairi; novelty, Heathcote.
