Offer To Pay £2 A Week

An offer to pay £2 a week this year and more next year was made by Bernard James Hayes Spanjer to a meeting of creditors before the Official Assignee (Mr P. D. Clancy), yesterday. Spanjer, a 39-year-old labourer, in his statement of affairs revealed he owed £661 12s 6d to 12 unsecured creditors. His assets were shown as £l5O and his deficiency was £5ll 12s 6d. Spanjer, who was discharged from a previous bankruptcy on June 24, 1959, bought a milk bar-dairy business ta 1960. His wife was to run it while he continued to work. However, his wife was unable to carry on after about six weeks and he had to take over, said his statement In addition, 350 houses which were to have been built in the area had not yet been erected and business was not sufficient to keep him out of debt. He was forced to sell on May 17 of this year. Mr Clancy formally closed the meeting.
