Plane From Chile Lands
The three-flight assault On the Antarctic by United . States Navy air* craft ended successfully at 3.17 p.m. yesterday when a ski-equipped Hercules from Punta Arenas, Chile, landed safely, at Williams Field, McMurdo Sound. Two Hercules which left Christchurch late on Thursday night landed at Williams Field yesterday at 7.24 a.m. and 7.56 a.m. respectively. The weather was very good at the
time with visibility for? 15 miles, a four-knot wind, and a temperature of minus 17 degrees Fahrenheit.
A Hercules from Melbourne carrying Rear-Admiral J. R. Reedy, commander of the United States Naval Antarctic support force, landed at Byrd station on Thursday. This aircraft left Byrd Station at 2.32 p.m. yesterday for McMurdo Station where it was due at 5.45 p.m. One of the three Hercules at McMurdo Station left about 9 p.m. yesterday for the flight to Christchurch. It was due to land here between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. today.
