Th® results have been achieved through the efforts of the staff and board members such as Mr J. R. Smith, who has been chairman for the last two years and a member for a total of six years. VITALLY INTERESTED A past president of the New Zealand Master Builders' Federation and also the Canterbury Master Buildeds* Association, Mr Smith is vitally interested in the board's future building programme which is an integral part of the plans to improve and expand Christchurch's comprehensive public transport system. As chairman of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board's Building Committee Mr Smith represents the Christchurch City Council cn the Board —he has already played a larg® part in the policy-making that has resulted in the development of the city's efficient fire fighting organisation through a most ambitious building programme. So, to the Transport Board h® brings a wide and varied business experience as well as experience in policy-making at local body level. HEATHCOTE CANDIDATE Mr Smith, who is offering himself for re-election to the Transport Board has represented the city in the past. However, as he now Ilves at Mt. Pleasant, he is standing for the Heathcote area as ho feels he can more effectively voice the opinions of Transport Board patrons in the district in which he lives.
