GUIANA GOVT

Unicameral Scheme (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) GEORGETOWN, September 28. Elections under a system of proportional representation will be held in British Guiana on December 7, the Governor (Sir Richard Luyt) announced. British Guiana’s 35member Legislative Assembly and 13-member Senate—in existence since August, 1961—were dissolved. They would be replaced by a single chamber of 53 members to be called the House of Assembly. The Governor also announced the release of the Deputy Premier, Mr Brindley Benn, and four other ruling People’s Progressive Party members, who have been in custody since June 13. The others are Mrs Philomena Sahoye, general secretary of the Guiana Agricultural Workers’ Union, Senator Mooneer Khan, Mr Desmond Sheppard, and Mr Parkash Persaud.
