Record-Holder Beaten

Valery Brumel, holder of the world high jump record, was beaten for the second time this season by the Olympic champion, Robert Shavlakadze, in a pre-games competition between members of the Russian team. Both cleared 7ft Un, but Shavlakadze did so with fewer attempts. Brumel’s world record is 7ft 55 in.
