N.Z.-BORN TRIUMPH

2-1 Win Over New Caledonia (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 27. An Auckland team composed entirely of players born in New Zealand did much to dispel the idea that soccer skill can only be imported when it beat New Caledonia, 2-1, at Newmarket Park today. But they could not emulate the crowd-pleasing but not match-winning football provided by the lithe natural athletes from New Caledonia. With their amazing ability for kicking and controlling a football, the visitors dominated mid-field play and with welldrilled Inter-passing moved the ball into the Auckland penalty area. There, however, they failed because of poor shooting. Auckland scored in the twenty-fifth minute of the first half when R. Clews headed in a centre by B. Leuschke. New Caledonia continued to have most of the play but the score was still 1-0 at half-time. In the eleventh minute of the second half G. Cozens headed home a free kick by Leuschke to put Auckland two goals up. With 10 minutes to go, the Inside-right, B. Goapana, scored for New Caledortia. The stars of the Auckland team were A. Cozens, in goal, and G. Eccles, at inside-left. For New Caledonia, the lefthalf, M. Bin jamin, the tnsldeleft, G. Delmas, played well.
