DELAY IN LONDON
Cargo For N.Z. (Special Crspdt NZP A > LONDON, Sept 27. It is hoped that delays of exports to New Zealand in ships due to load in the London docks “may not be too severe,” said a spokesman of the New Zealand Streamlining Committee. He said that the Port of London Authority, after consultation with London shipowners and master stevedores, had started a rationalisation scheme “which might cause minor delay” in the berthing of some ships.. The idea was to ensure that ships would be berthed only when there was labour to unload and load them. Shortage of labour had been caused by the peak of the dockers’ holiday period. This was now ending and there should be a return to “near normal” within two to four weeks.
