PROPOSED AWARD

Accident-Free Drivers

A proposal for a safe-driv-ing award for accident-free drivers was made by Mr F. R. Longley at a meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee. Mr Longley said he based his suggestion on the Minnesota State Automobile Association’s golden wheel award given for five years of perfect driving. The award was in the form of a wheel and of 24-carat gold plate. It was attached to a key ring. The meeting decided to ask the Automobile Association (Canterbury) for its views on an award for safe driving. Mr Longley said that he considered drivers should be rewarded for safe driving. They received penalties for bad driving.
