RANDOM REMINDER

DAFFODIL DAY

Most street appeals held In Christchurch win solid support from the citizenry, because inevitably they are for causes eminently worthwhile. But today's collection holds particular appeal, partly perhaps because it is the spring of the year, which makes people feel well-disposed, one towards the other, partly because daffodils are sold, and their bright and cheerful colours have a similar effect, but mainly because the work of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association is for the brightest flowers in all the family gardens, the pre-school children. Daffodil Day must have special significance for many thousands of people

who have appreciated the work being done in the Christchurch kindergartens. The training the children are given, the affection they are shown, the happiness they share as they produce their sometimes incomprehensible works of art are worth much to the youngsters and to their parents. The Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association has very considerable responsibilities. Already there are 37 Kindergartens in the group, and with an average roll of 60, there are about 2200 children receiving training, in the most pleasant of surroundings and environment. Early next year another kindergarten will

open in Wainonl; a start will soon be made on the Isleworth kindergarten; as soon as a site is found, work will start on one for Avonhead, and similar investigations are being made in Northcote. The association also has its teachers’ college on Park terrace, where 60 young charmers are engaged In a two-year training course. The association, which has to look after building new kindergartens, administering the existing ones, and running the training college, has considerable responsibilities. The people of Christchurch should, today. recognise this wonderful work in the most practical way.
