Young Farmers From South

By a margin of nine points, the Totara-Weston team, from the Otago-Southland council, beat the Sheffield club team from the Canterbury council area in the South Island final of the Young Farmers’ Club debating competition at Darfield. The Totara-Weston club scored 302 points to Sheffield’s 293. Messrs W. Godsall, R. Mitchell and K. Mitchell were the winning team. K. Mitchell was judged the best speaker in the debate. The Sheffield team comprised Messrs G. Bull, F. Bull and R. Soulsby. The subject of the debate was “that more of the present pastoral land be utilised for forestry.” Mr G. R. Lyall was the judge. The Totara-Weston team will contest the New Zealand final to be held in the North Island about the middle of next month.
