GIRL ON PROBATION
“Infatuated,” Says S.M. (N.Z. Press' Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 24. “This is the perfect example of an irresponsible girl becoming infatuated with a very slick criminal,” Mr R. M. Grant, S.M., said today when Margaret Ann Fisk, aged 18, a shorthand typist, appeared for sentence on a joint charge of theft as a servant. She was placed on probation for two years. Colin Bernard Kneller, aged 24, driver, who has also admitted a further six charges of false pretences and one of obtaining credit by fraud, was remanded till October 1 to enable the police to obtain further information from overseas.
Both offenders were extradited from New South Wales to face the charges. Counsel, Mr G. H. Peak, said £287 had been paid into the court by Fisk’s father. Fisk herself intended to pay back the full sum of the theft and also the money paid out by her parents. The Magistrate said Kneller had dominated Fisk. At an earlier hearing evidence was given that on August 3, Fisk stole £573 from the firm of Frank M. Winstone, Ltd., where she was employed as a cashier and shorthand-typ-ist.
