SCARBOROUGH SEWAGE

Notices To Be Erected

Notices warning the public not to use the beach at Scarborough because of pollution by sewage should be erected straight away, said the chairman of the City Council by-laws committee (Cr H. P. Smith) yesterday. The Chief City Health Inspector (Mr A. P. Mlllthorpe) would communicate with the Health Department so the work could be expedited, he said.

Mr H. F. Page, the Chief Engineer of the Christchurch Drainage Board, said engineers were working on a report on possible improvements to the system of discharging sewage into the sea near Scarborough. Eventually sewage from Sumner, Redcliffs and Mount Pleasant would be pumped to the sewage treatment works at Bromley, Mr Page said, but that was a big job requiring a special loan.
