(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, September 24. . The New Zealander, W. J. Godfrey, with a one-under par 72, was two strokes behind the leaders after the first round of the Victorian open golf championship at Melbourne todav. Five players share the 'lead on 70 —E. Phillips, H. McGain, R. Tuohy. P. Thomson and R. Howell (United States). There are three on 71—E, Wishart, E. Ball, and B. Devlin—and five on 72—Godfrey. J. Hayes (South Africa). K. Nagle, L. O'Shea and E. Routley.
