Town Milk

Sir,—At last Mr Glue admits that there is an unavoidabel seasonal variation of milk composition in his reply to “Solids Not Fat.” Perhaps he can also tell us what the rest of the country is doing to overcome it. This seasonal loss affects all breeds and all districts in varying proportions. In Australia there is to be a national conference to discuss. this problem this year. In the United States and Canada town milk is sold with solids-not-fat of 8.2 per cent, and the United Kingdom is bringing in a new standard of total solids of 12 per cent. The Christchurch supply always exceeds these standards, plus having the only brucelosis free milk in New Zealand. The Milk Board would show genuine interest and constructive thinking if they got behind and financially supported research into this problem for all sections of the community to benefit. —Yours, etc.,

COW COCKIE. September 21, 1964.
