WELLINGTON, Sept 22.
The £lOO award for achievement for works published in 1963 has been made to Marilyn Duckworth, of Wellington, for her novel “A Barbarous Tongue.”
The award is made on the recommendation of the Literary Fund Advisory Committee.
Today, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said the award reflected Mrs Duckworth’s standing among leading contemporary New Zealand writers.
Grants to New Zealand publishers recently approved by the advisory committee are: £2OO to Collins Bros, and Company, of Auckland, to assist the publication of an anthology of recent New Zealand poetry, edited by Charles Doyle. £75 to Mate Books, Auckland, to assist publication of “My Side of the Story,” a collection of poems by
Peter Bland. £250 to Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., Christchurch, to assist publication of “Rata,” a children’s novel by Anne Holden.
