Tiki Capped Good Week

WANGANUI, Sept. 14. Tiki’s victory in the Spring Hack Handicap at Marton on Saturday capped off a successful week for her owner, Mrs J. G. Alexander, Wanganui, the wife of the Cranleigh studmaster. A few days earlier the three-year-old Figurehead, bred by Mrs Alexander, beat the well-performed Ripa and the Newmarket Handicap winner, Rashlore, in the Whittier Handicap, at Caulfield, Australia.
A juvenile winner in Australia last term. Figurehead is by Talismano from Sea Lark (Dogger Bank—Kudos). Sea Lark was previously owned by Mr Alexander, who in his own words “did his best to get the mare off the property.” Mrs Alexander was adamant that the mare had quality traits and the matron remained at Cranleigh—in Mrs Alexander's name. Sep Lark’s dam, Kudos, is an imported . mare descending directly from the matron, Cinna, which has had a marked influence on New Zealand breeding. As well as siring Tiki and Figurehead, Talismano was represented by Wizard, which took the seven-furlong York Fann Hack Handicap earlier in the day at Marton. Though she had never previously succeeded before winning the Marton apprentice riders’ contest, Tiki had a number of minor placings to her credit. She finished strongly over the final stages of the 10-furlong journey to beat the hurdler, Saturnian, and another Wanganui entrant, Blue Dart.
