CONDUCTOR ARRIVES

In N.Z. For Two Years (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. Mr L. I. ' Heltay, aged 34. a former conductor with the Budapest Radio Orchestra and choir and an Oxford graduate, arrived in Auckland in the Gothic this morning to become associate conductor of the N.Z.B.C. Symphony Orchestra. He was born in Hungary and was in Budapest during the Hungarian revolution. He went, to England in 1956, soon after the ’ revolution, and spent seven years at Oxford, conducting the Merton College orchestra. During this period Mr Heltay, now a nationalised Briton, met his wife, Hilary, who was born in Lancashire. She was a member of a’ choir he conducted at Oxford. Both are Oxford graduates. His appointment here is for two years.
