Mitsui Seeking Partnerships

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, September 7. Joint industrial ventures by Japanese and Australian companies in Australia were urged last night by the Japanese chairman of one of the world’s biggest trading companies.

Mr V. Niizeki, chairman of the board of Mitsui, says Australia needs more industry. With Japanese techniques and industrial knowledge, Australian workmen and joint capital, small and medium size factories could be established in Australia, he says.

Mitsui wants to set up such partnerships. In joint ventures Japan has helped establish a transistor factory in Ireland, a motor scooter factory in Belgium, and a plastics plant in Portugal. “We would welcome contact from Australian businessmen as they would know better than us what would suit Australia,” Mr Niizeki said last night. “Australia and Japan will be woven closer and closer beyond the imagination within five years,” he said. After a visit to the jointly-

owned Thiess Peabody Mitsui coal field at Moura, Queensland, tomorow, Mr Niizeki will fly to Sydney.
